A women’s cooperative in Senegal is offering low-cost health insurance to women who sell produce and food at local markets. They’re known in Africa as “market women” and previously were uninsured, as are most Senegalese. Some people in the country receive coverage from large employers and few buy their own. But VOA West Africa Correspondent Scott Stearns reports most poor people, and especially those who deal in the informal, cash economy, have no coverage.
