The World Health Organization calls the French health care system the best in the world, and French people have the third-highest life expectancy on the planet (Americans are 24th).
Doctors still make house calls.
Each neighborhood has nurses who will give you shots, change bandages and remove stitches (don’t have to go downtown to the hospital).
Doctors give you their cell phone no. and want you to call if you have a question or problem.
SOS Medicins (Doctors) is available 24/7 and will come to your house within an hour to fix what’s wrong. They are equipped with DOCTORS, not only EMTs, heart attack equipment, everything to stabilize you BEFORE you go to the hospital.
Prescriptions rarely cost more than $15 and many meds can be purchased at pharmacies from licensed pharmacists (same as here) but without prescription.
After giving birth, women get in-home help with child care.
You can usually get a doctor appt within 2 days (despite what the anti-health care ads say). Although for specialists the wait can be 2 weeks (here, my husband had to wait a month for a specialist who had gone on vacation.)
There’s no insurance company between you and the doctor, waiting to deny your claim.
Once you’re in the health care system (and foreigners can be), nearly everything is free.
